Many U.S. companies continue to face obstacles along the path to maintaining liquidity in today's challenging economy, seeking guidance and solutions for overcoming the struggles they encounter.
Despite signs of initial economic recovery, most distressed organizations still could benefit from the insight and expertise within the corporate revitalization industry to help guide them to secure a firm footing in what's becoming the "new normal" within the marketplace.
In the new book, Navigating Today's Environment: The Directors' and Officers' Guide to Restructuring, industry leaders — including Carl Marks Advisory Group's own Duff Meyercord — share insight and advice on how to weather the financial storm.
Approached by the book's consulting editor and Carl Marks colleague and friend, Jack Butler with a request to write a chapter, Duff contributes his wealth of industry knowledge to the guide on behalf of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
In a chapter entitled, Preserving and recovering value in illiquid times, Duff examines how fiscally challenged companies can achieve successful corporate reorganizations in times of tight liquidity through the relentless effort of management to build stakeholder confidence. His contribution walks readers through revitalization in an over-leveraged market and explains how to come out on the favorable side of the reorganization process.
"In the wake of the downturn, lender confidence in corporate restructuring has been at an unprecedented low as the lending industry witnessed historic failures of several notable institutions," Duff said. "While finding a lender willing to support a company-led reorganization is not impossible, tight capital markets and the lessons of previous economic contractions mean management has to work much harder. Turnaround professionals can help secure stakeholder confidence, broker negotiations and provide support for the restructuring company's management team in every aspect of the transaction."
